HUGE ALLOCATIONS TO DELTA STATE: WASTED BY CABALS

Says Deltan Lawyer: PETER EKAVWO ESQ.,

The State called Delta is highly blessed by God both in its human and natural resources. This has attracted huge allocations from the Federation Account every month and a 13% Oil Derivation allocation.
The challenge however is that, the massive allocation running into billions of  naira has not translated to better living conditions for the people. This obviously is attributed to the poor governance that has been foisted on the people, through selection by the ruling party in the State of individuals who do not either have the interest of the masses at heart or are bereft of what to do to move the state to eldorado.

It is saddening that the Okowa led administration has like its predecessors being receiving billions of naira and millions of dollars as Federal Allocation, but what do you see? A few poorly constructed roads that would eventually get bad in a year or two, poor and degrading health care facilities, lack of industrialisation plan, poorly motivated Civil service with pensioners dying daily for failure to pay gratuities and pensions in record time etc.

NOW LET US LOOK AT THE FIGURES ALLOCATED TO THE STATE DURING THE TENURE OF GOVERNOR OKOWA: (Source: Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS and other print media)

1. JUNE 2015-May 2016..................144 Billion (NBS)
2. 2017..............................................111.2 Billion (source: Premium time, 21, 2018)
3. Jan-Oct 2018 (average of 14-17 Billion monthly)......170 billion

BAIL OUT FUNDS TO DELTA STATE
10.036 Billions (premium times. Nov 11, 2018

IGR-Internal Generated Revenue
According to the Finance Commissioner, the state generated the sum of 51 billion naira in 2017  and received 43 billion as 13% derivation in 2017. (Premium Times April 12, 2018)

Cumulatively therefore, we can safely say that the Okowa led administration has received a whooping average sum of 547 Billion naira ( over half a Trillion naira) since his assumption of office in 2015.

VALUE FOR MONEY?
The next question that comes to mind is: Has Deltans got value for the over half a trillion that has accrued to the Okowa led Government? The answer is a capital NO!
what you find is mediocrity, waste, inefficiency and lack of good governance.

TO WHOM MUCH IS GIVEN, MUCH IS EXPECTED. What the over half a trillion has produced under the Okowa government is as follows:
1.    A few Kilometres of POORLY CONSTRUCTED ROADS that cannot stand the test of time            and which would cost the state more of its resources to construct in the near future.
2.    Dilapidated public school buildings everywhere and poorly motivated teachers, with its antedant         effect on the future of our children.
3.    Over-bloated recurrent expenditure i.e for hiring of SSAs, driving of long convoys, and wastages         in servicing its allies, travelling and all other frivolities.
4.    Delayed payments of pension and gratuities to senior citizens of the State, while they groan in             pains for some, running into 5 years after retirement
5.    Poor HEALTH CARE facilities with shortage of doctors and other health professionals.
6.    Lack of industrialization strategies and plan for the State.
7.    Rising unemployment etc

WAY FORWARD!
I beckon on all Deltans of all goodwill to have the moral courage to vote out Governor Okowa, as a Vote for him in 2019, is a continuity of mediocrity, rising unemployment, lack of industrialisation, a bastardized local government, delayed payment for pensioners, poor health care and backwardness etc.

A VOTE FOR OGBORU ON THE OTHER HAND, would provide an alternative style of governance which the State earnestly desire; A new way of doing things built on job creation, industrialisation and the welfare of the masses!!

YOUR VOTERS CARD IS A POWERFUL INSTRUMENT, PLEASE USE IT WISELY AND CHANGE THE COURSE OF HISTORY FOR DELTA STATE. CHEERS!
